Early in July multiple millions across the nation — and many more Americans overseas — celebrated the Fourth of July, our nation’s 234th birthday. A few days later we received by e-mail a copy of an Australia private market letter, The Privateer. Inside was a section titled, Inside the United States: let them eat hotdogs: “News these days has become a sad and pathetic affair. To give one small example, in the aftermath of the July 4 holiday in the US, we were watching one of the local (Australian) evening news reports on TV. Out of all the events, current and historical, associated with the date of July 4 in the US, what did the station choose to highlight as their sole story? It was a hotdog eating contest which took place in New York city. We were treated to a 30-second ‘sound bite’ of a number of Americans stuffing gargantuan amounts of food down their gullets at a truly terrifying rate of knots.
“If ignorance about what is actually happening in the world today is all but total, the reason is pretty clear. The majority of people (inside and outside the United States) still get the majority of their ‘news’ through TV.
“Pandering To Innocence: While the mainstream ‘information providers’ think they can fob the ‘hoi polloi’ [Greek for ‘common people’] off with hotdog eating circuses, the more ‘sophisticated’ are deemed to need sterner stuff. Washington is by no means loathe to provide it. They pump it out daily in staggering volumes. They call it economic statistics. On July 2, the US Labor Department announced that the June unemployment rate in the US had fallen from 9.7 in May to 9.5 percent. At the same time, they reported that overall payrolls in the US had declined by 125,000 over the month of June. Unemployment and the labor force are shrinking at the same time. Now that’s a feat that puts the devouring of 54 hotdogs in the shade. But here, don’t forget, we are talking about the need to impart information to a much more discerning audience.
“Why did the official unemployment rate fall? Because 652,000 Americans stopped looking for work in June. If you are not looking for work, you are not officially unemployed. You’re just lazy...”
AMERICA’S HOI POLLOI
What America’s “hoi polloi” can’t see — or all too frequently adamantly refuse to see and believe — is that “their” leaders in Washington and their “information providers” in the mainstream media have a vested interest in lying and misleading the basically mindless masses. Yes, the mind-manipulating, myth-mongering moguls of the mass media have an agenda — one dedicated to controlling and redirecting the attention of their viewers and readers toward the abandonment of the ideals of our founding fathers, the surrender of national sovereignty, and the alleged “need” of America’s participation in a new world order.
As Congressman Oscar Callaway (D-Tx, 1872-1947) recorded in the Congressional Record, 9 February, 1917, the top money, political, and business interests had, two years earlier, met with twelve men high up in the newspaper world. They “employed them to select the most influential newspapers in the United States and to determine sufficient numbers of them to control generally the policy of the daily press in the United States. They found it was only necessary to purchase the control of twenty five of the greatest newspapers. The twenty five newspapers were agreed upon; emissaries were sent to purchase the policy, national and international, of these papers... [A]n editor was furnished for each paper to properly supervise and edit information regarding the questions of preparedness, militarism, financial policies, and other things of national and international nature considered vital to the interests of the purchasers” [Please note, there was no mention of the interests of the American people, only those of their would-be controllers!].
“INTELLECTUAL PROSTITUTES”
As John Swinton (1830-1901), a New York editor, stated at a “Journalists’ Gathering” in that city on April 12, 1883, “There is no such thing as an independent press in America, if we except that of little country towns. You know this and I know it. Not a man among you dare utter his honest opinion. Were you to utter it, you know beforehand that it would not appear in print...
“It is the duty of a New York journalist to lie, to revile, to toady at the feet of Mammon, to sell his country and his race for his daily bread, or what amounts to the same thing, his salary. We are tools and vassals of the rich behind the scenes. We are marionettes...
“These men pull the strings and we dance. Our time, our talents, our lives and our capacities are all the property of these men. We are intellectual prostitutes.”
Since those words were uttered more than 100 years ago, things have greatly degenerated. We now have thousands of papers, magazines, radio and TV channels, and websites spewing out perverted and mind-destroying garbage. This is being pumped, 24/7, into the plastic, unsuspecting minds of more than 300,000,000 Americans. Coast-to-coast, the havoc being wrought by this deliberate and malicious indoctrination program is incalculable. The numerous mainstream “wells” (or information providers) from which most Americans draw their very shallow, artificially manufactured “opinions” and greatly polluted “worldviews,” are in truth weapons of mass destruction. All these factors — plus the catastrophically disastrous influence of the totally compromised, taxpayer-funded, nationwide indoctrination centers euphemistically known as “schools” and “colleges,” have left our once prosperous and free Constitutional Republic teetering on the brink of extinction. Over the last hundred years, America — which was once “a city upon a hill (with the) eyes of all people ... upon us” (John Winthrop, 1630) — has jumped the tracks of political, economic, and spiritual sanity and gone careening off into an intellectually barren wilderness. It has divested itself of every vestige of moral, financial and spiritual authority it appeared to have following its bold Declaration of Independence in 1776. After 234 years of perceived independence and freedom, America has degenerated to the point of leading the world in virtually every vice renounced by its founders, and declared to be an abomination in the sight of the Creator God.
Since our nation’s founding, many declared that “such a thing could never happen in America, the famed “land of the free and home of the brave.” Now they see their false beliefs crushed by the overwhelming weight of reality. Today, most “Americans” stand for nothing, but will fall for practically anything.
The pathetic ignorance and unpreparedness of today’s Americans to face the trials of the future was reflected and brought home by answers given on a recent television talk show. Jay Leno randomly interviewed “people in the street” for a segment titled Jaywalk. Leno queried people on the history of the founding of our nation. He asked passersby, “On the 4th of July we celebrate our independence from ...? In what year was that? Our revolutionary war was led by General ...? We won our independence from ...? Who sewed the first American flag? Who were the Minutemen?
Most of the “answers” given demonstrated a woeful ignorance of what America was originally all about. In other words, most of those who appeared on the show had no idea how America came into being — or where it is headed. Like zombies, they are staggering aimlessly through life oblivious to what is happening to their once free nation.
In addition, many “famous” people in the public eye are not too “bright.” Here are a few more examples: “I love California. I practically grew up in Phoenix” (Vice President Dan Quayle); “It isn’t pollution that’s harming the environment. It’s the impurities in our air and the water that are doing it” (Vice President Al Gore); “Outside of the killing, Washington has one of the lowest crime rate in the country” (Mayor Marion Barry, Washington, DC).
“IT’S ALL SHOW BIZ”
There are still millions who pride themselves on being “republicans” who are loyal to the Constitution. They look forward to “regaining power” in the upcoming November elections. True, some “republican” candidates may be able to defeat their Democratic (Socialist) opponents in November. They may thus be able to slow down slightly the Godless steamroller of national destruction rolling relentlessly across our nation. But that will be tantamount to treating a terminal disease with aspirin and band-aids — or of supposedly gaining control of a runaway car as it approaches the edge of a precipice at 70 miles an hour, having slowed down from 100. The “slowdown” may — initially — be viewed as “encouraging” by some. It may even make some “conservative” voters “feel better,” or believe they are “doing something” worthwhile.
But, what will be accomplished? Nothing! Washington’s Capitol Hill, where our supposed representatives (individuals who pride themselves on being America’s “lawmakers”) hold court, is largely a stinking cesspool of iniquity, far past the point of redemption. If the treasonous, nation-destroying political and economic events of the last 60-80 years have even the remotest chance of being reversed, it won’t be through the efforts of falsely named “republicans.”
Why? As the late Dr. Carroll Quigley pointed out so succinctly in his 1311-page tome, Tragedy and Hope, “The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to doctrinaire and academic thinkers. Instead, [it has been be decreed by the hidden powers-that-be] that the parties be almost identical, so that the American people can ‘throw the rascals out’ in any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy. The policies that are [in the eyes of the hidden, behind-the-scenes manipulators] vital and necessary for America, are no longer subjects of significant disagreement, but are disputable only in details of procedure, priority, or method... These things any national American party hoping to win a presidential election must accept...” (pgs.1247-48). If we fail to “get the message” we are too brainwashed and unwitting to address political reality in any meaningful way. As Marcus Cicero, a Roman lawyer, orator, and statesman, 106 BC-43 BC, stated, “To be ignorant of what happened before you were born... is to live the life of a child for ever.”
Hello! Hello! Anybody home? Time to wake up!
“A nation,” declared Cicero, “can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.” (For seeing and telling the truth, Cicero was proscribed “an enemy of the state” and subsequently murdered).
‘LEARNING IS GRID LOCKED’
Famed lawyer Gerry Spence makes a vitally important observation: “Peeping into a prejudiced mind is like opening the door of a room packed to the ceiling with junk. Nothing whatsoever can get in, and when the door opens, the junk comes tumbling out...
“Growth is dead. Learning is gridlocked... People are prejudiced both for and against a philosophy, a religion, a belief system, a race, a person, you name it.... You can drown the prejudiced person in reason, scream, weep, and beg, but your pleas for fairness and justice will go for nought. You had just as well sing to a bag of jelly beans...
“The problem is that our prejudices may lay lurking at the bottom of the subterranean mind, where they slowly ooze out, and color our thinking without our knowing it” (How To Argue and Win Every Time, pgs. 74,75).
Americans, having for decades been marinated in falsehoods and, being fallen humans whose hearts are by nature “deceitful above all things and desperately wicked”(Jeremiah 17:9), are in dire need of a Savior. The only One who can fill that role is the One who is “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). That is the Lord Jesus Christ!
PEOPLE NATURALLY LOVE DARKNESS
Like untold millions down through the centuries, the Romans of Cicero’s day weren’t prepared to have an eyeball-to-eyeball confrontation with reality. Why? The Lord Jesus Christ lays out the answer in no uncertain terms: “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. For every one that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be manifest that they are wrought in Christ” (John 3:19-21).
Acknowledging these ultimately undeniable realities, is there any honest, justifiable reason why we should expect our political leaders in Washington, who, since at least 1933, have thrown the Creator God and his laws out of their political and economic decisions, to have any greater respect for truth? We think not!
Jesse Ventura, an ex-pro wrestler, former governor of Minnesota, and sometimes TV documentary maker, makes a succinct observation: “[P]olitics in America today is identical with pro wrestling... In front of the cameras, in public, we all hate each other: ‘I’m going to kick your butt, I’m going to whack him from here to high water, and beat the crap out of him.’
“Yet, behind the scenes we are all friends ... going out to dinner... It’s all show biz. That’s what we have today in politics. Democrats and Republicans are not really opposed to each other...”
Another vital question: what is truth? A leading authority tells us that truth is that which is “in agreement with reality; the eternal principle of right or the natural law of order; fidelity, constancy, agreement with a standard or rule; accuracy” (Webster’s Illustrated Dictionary). An even more precise and accurate definition is given by Dr. Stuart Crane in one of his seminars: “Truth is an accurate representation of the subject under consideration, (1) As it relates to all other things; (2) As it always has been in the past; (3) As it universally holds in the present; and, (4) Shall hold without exception in the future. Error is not the opposite of truth. Error is anything except truth. If there are any exceptions, it is error.”
As you go through life, remember that, as H.L. Mencken observed, “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed, and hence clamorous to be led to safety, by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”
Remember also that we are engaged in a spiritual battle for the mind. Satan (aka Lucifer, the Prince of Darkness who has deceived the whole world, Revelation 12:9) wants to prevent you from waking up and freeing yourself from the deceptions that keep society in bondage. Particularly at this critical stage in history, Christian believers need to understand that they have been given the Holy Spirit — which is “not ... the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (I Timothy 1:7). “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” (I John 4:7).
“A mind that is positive cannot be controlled. For the purpose of occult dominion minds must therefore be rendered passive and negative in order that control may be achieved. Minds consciously working to a definite end are a power, and power can oppose power for good or for evil. The scheme for world dominion might be doomed by the recognition of this principle alone, but, as it is unfortunately unrecognized, it remains unchallenged” (Occult Theocrasy, by Lady Queenborough, p.581). Therefore, Christians, “be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion walketh about seeking whom he may devour: whom resist steadfast in the faith” (I Peter 5:8,9).
